Charter of the Forest

The bus will pick up from outside of the Collection, Danes Terrace, Lincoln.

This booking is for space on a bus to the off-site Charter of the Forest exhibition curated by Lincoln Art Programme. A part of the Collections main exhibition, which is an Igniting Ambition event.

Situated amongst Lincolnshire’s historic woodlands, Charter of the Forest brings together six artists of which four have been commissioned to develop new work that draws upon the historic Charter of the Forest document, presented alongside existing video works which point towards key issues raised through the project.
Often known as the ‘Charter of the Common Man’, the Charter of the Forest provided new rights for ordinary people, permitting hunting, foraging and the free use of forestland. New artworks will explore the social, historical and natural impact of the charter document, whist also investigating our public use of woodlands today.
Join us for a live weekend in August, which will see performances, guided tours around the woodland, trails to the individual artwork sites and enjoy a day out viewing this project amongst the tranquil Lincolnshire woodlands.
Charter of the Forest at Chambers Farm Wood has been developed in partnership with the Collection and the Forestry Commission.

Lincoln Art Programme
Lincoln Art Programme is a curatorial platform that focuses on working with artists to create new work in Lincolnshire. Lincoln Art Programme works within a nomadic framework; it has no gallery or static space, but uses the county and its various histories, events, communities and evolving landscapes as sites, spaces and starting points.
Many artists that work with the programme have never visited the county before, and consequently all projects start with the artists undertaking a number of site visits to the region. It’s these short visits that expose artists to Lincolnshire’s sites, histories and people, which provide the beginnings of dialogue for creating new work.
Working in partnership with venues and sites across the region the programme looks to locate contemporary art amongst daily Lincolnshire life, allowing for new work and the issues and debate that this work raises to proliferate throughout Lincolnshire’s rural and urban communities.
